Meet the creatives behind 'we're here because we're here'

‘we’re here because we’re here’ On Friday 1 July 2016, 1400 volunteers took part in a modern memorial to mark the centenary of the Battle of the Somme. This UK wide event, commissioned by 14-18 NOW, was conceived and created by Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller in collaboration with Rufus Norris, Director of the National Theatre. In this NT Platform film, Jeremy Deller, Rufus Norris, Director of 14-18 NOW, Jenny Waldman and associate lead director Emily Lim explore the conception, journey and delivery of the event with Lyse Doucet, Chief International Correspondent for the BBC from an exclusive talk at the National Theatre on 11 July.
