Terje Sølvberg provides a detailed history of Operation Archery carried out by the British in the Second World War. Commando Derek Page participated in this engagement. Capt O'Flaherty also participated and suffered sniper bullets in both eyes - one eye was saved. Operation Archery was a British Combined Operations raid conducted on December 27, 1941 against German positions on Vågsøy Island, Norway during World War II. It was carried out by British Commandos and Norwegian forces based in Britain. The objectives of Operation Archery were: Conduct a raid on the Norwegian island to undermine German morale and divert their troops . Destroy local fish oil factories that produced glycerine, an ingredient for explosives used in German munitions production. Destroy a German observation post & supporting infrastructure on Måløy Island. Inflict as much damage as possible to German military targets and stores. The raid on Vågsøy involved around 570 commandos supported by naval gunfire. Several key targets like fish oil factories, stores and the German headquarters were successfully destroyed in the well-coordinated attack. The effect on Allied forces was a terrific morale boost through its success and is seen by historians as a turning point in the war. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Wo...
