(First 4K upload yay) This was one of the most intense moments I've had in my history of recording sirens. I came up to visit family in Wisconsin and forgot my tripod and both cameras so I was gonna skip out on sirens this year, but then I saw the severe weather outlook - and it looked ominous! I thought the storms were dying down early afternoon and didn't expect anything, but around 4 I drove down to Rib Mountain since there was a better chance of severe weather there versus in Merrill. Well, it was quite eventful! I parked near the FS 508 at the fire station and watched the clouds build up for a while, recording the thunder and lightning occasionally. I knew it was getting iffy when I saw the strange clouds (somewhat like a wall cloud to me but I'm not a meteorologist lol) approaching fast, with the scary green tinge giving me an uneasy feeling. As the green clouds passed over the car, I felt like I saw rotation and was about to step on the gas and get out of there, but it didn't seem too bad so I stayed in the same spot... a lucky choice, because if the storm had produced a tornado, I would've driven right through it as I tried to escape. At 4:57 PM CST, a Tornado Warning was issued as the rotation became more significant over Wausau and within seconds, the sirens were activated. I was in a safe spot because the rotation started near my location but passed over me before the warning was issued, thankfully. Marathon County activated the sirens a total of three times within 12 minutes - it was glorious! The T-135 sounded so potent from 1.72 miles way, and I could clearly hear it even though I was only 361 feet away from the 508. Once the third alert cycle ended, the second 508 was audible as it wound down - over 3.15 miles away! After that, the storms died down pretty quickly - but wow, this is definitely an event that I will remember forever!
