The Chicago Bungalow Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping owners of historic homes maintain, preserve and adapt their properties. Through a free membership, the Chicago Bungalow Association supports low and moderate-income homeowners through home repair grants, energy efficiency programs, and education resources. With a 25-year track record, the Chicago Bungalow Association works to reduce energy costs, promote housing stability, and strengthen communities. In June of 2025, the Chicago Bungalow Association received a $2 million grant from the Trust to launch UnBlocked Englewood, a project created by Tonika Johnson, social justice artist and lifelong Englewood resident. UnBlocked Englewood is a community-driven home repair and stabilization initiative focused on preserving homeownership, supporting aging in place, and strengthening historically disinvested communities like Englewood. UnBlocked builds on two years of trust, results, and deep relationships with residents on the 6500 S Aberdeen pilot block in Englewood. The project is a three-year pilot that will test whether clustered home repairs in an underinvested area help to raise property values. The initiative will provide essential repairs to 50 homes, connect residents to estate planning and vacant lot programs, and help the longtime homeowners stay in their homes. The goal: help long-time homeowners age in place, preserve equity, and strengthen community stability. www.cct.org
