Het Jasenovac-concentratiekamp werd opgericht door het Ustaše-regime, een fascistische en ultranationalistische beweging, tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog in de Onafhankelijke Staat Kroatië, die een marionettenstaat was van nazi-Duitsland. Jasenovac ligt in het huidige Kroatië en werd een van de grootste en wreedste concentratiekampen in Europa. Jasenovac werd voornamelijk gebruikt om etnische en religieuze minderheden op te sluiten en uit te roeien, met name Serviërs, Joden, Roma en anti-fascistische Kroaten. De omstandigheden in het kamp waren extreem zwaar en gevangenen werden geconfronteerd met martelingen, dwangarbeid en systematische moorden. De massamoordmethoden in Jasenovac waren uitzonderlijk wreed. Ze bestonden uit schietpartijen, afranselingen en ophangingen. Schattingen van het aantal slachtoffers in Jasenovac lopen uiteen, maar er wordt aangenomen dat er tienduizenden mensen zijn omgekomen. Het exacte aantal is moeilijk vast te stellen omdat de Ustaše voor het einde van de oorlog opzettelijk gegevens vernietigde.
