The Quantum Flow Processor (QFP) is a dedicated hardware processor used in Cisco ASR 1000 Series routers to handle high-speed packet processing. Unlike traditional routers where the CPU processes packets, QFP offloads packet forwarding and advanced services to specialized hardware. QFP enables routers to perform multiple functions simultaneously, such as: Packet forwarding at high speed Network Address Translation (NAT) Access Control Lists (ACL) Quality of Service (QoS) Encryption and security processing Deep Packet Inspection Because QFP processes packets in hardware, it improves performance, reduces CPU load, and ensures low latency. This allows Cisco ASR routers to deliver enterprise-grade scalability, reliability, and high throughput. In simple terms, QFP is the engine that powers fast, secure, and efficient packet processing inside Cisco ASR routers.
