HEAD TEACHER Martin Brook has announced that he will formally be stepping down at the end of Spring Term 2026, when he will pass on the leadership baton to Tom Goodman. The two have been working together this school year in a unique arrangement - endorsed and supported by the Academy's parent Ted Wragg Trust - that has seen a gradual transition from one's headship to the other. The success of that approach has prompted a completion date for the handover that Martin believes is in the very best interests of the Academy's pupils. "The most important thing is Lipson - it's the students; it's the parents; it's the community - and it's definitely the right time for that," he said. "Secondary to that, it's the right time for Tom. "Tom is now running the school day-to-day and we've reached a decision between us that this will be my last half-term at the school, so I will be finishing at Easter. I think it's important that staff and parents get some absolute clarity on that. "This is kind of how it was always going to be. As soon as we realised that we could work together and the transition was going to be as seamless as it has been, it was really then just a case of picking the right time. "I probably could have gone at Christmas; could have hung on until September. But I think we both feel that Easter's the right time." Martin will remain active in the education sector, but Easter will mark the end of nearly four decades as a teacher. He will be forever remembered at Lipson by generations of students and their families, as well as Academy staff, as a highly-respected leader who drove a significant improvement in the school's ambitions and achievements. He said: "I'm thrilled to bits with how we've managed at Lipson and I just know that the school will continue to improve. So that bit's been okay. But I started my teaching in 1988; I've been doing it a long time, nearly 40 years, and it's that I've probably found it harder to let go then maybe I thought I would. "I've had a fabulous offer from the Ted Wragg Trust to continue to work, so I'm retiring as a headteacher, but I'm not quite finished yet. There's still a little bit of life in the old dog yet." #LipsonLife💙
