Tampa Police are releasing new video that shows the moments before a deadly shooting in the 500 block of S. Howard Ave. in an effort to generate additional leads. On May 12, 2024, shortly before 3:00 a.m., Tampa Police officers on patrol in SoHo heard shots fired at a nearby parking lot and immediately responded. Kenneth Washington (B/M) and Kevon Christmas (B/M) died from their injuries as a result of the shooting. Based on the investigation, detectives determined that the altercation stemmed from an ongoing dispute between two rival neighborhood groups and was not a random act. Detectives are still working to identify the role of the third shooting victim, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and determine if there were any other shooters involved. “The overall safety of the community is our top priority,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. Working in collaboration with our community is the best way we can ensure everyone is safe.” We will also be working closely with residents and businesses in SoHo to address any concerns that arise at any time of the day. As a reminder, we encourage anyone who may see something or someone suspicious, to inform the nearest officer immediately, call our non-emergency number at 813-231-6130, or dial 911 if you believe there is immediate danger. Anyone with information that could assist detectives with the ongoing investigation is encouraged to call the Tampa Police Department at 812-231-6130 or submit an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 800-873-8477 or by texting SAFETAMPA to Tip411 (847411).
