Hi everyone! Welcome on board the Formula 1 Racing Sprinter from Zandvoort to Amsterdam! Last weekend, after 36 years, the F1-races were back in The Netherlands! Thousands of fans went to Zandvoort to see Max Verstappen win the 1st price. On Saturday in this weekend I had a shift on the line Zandvoort – Amsterdam vv. Here’s a special video dedicated to this weekend! The picture in the introduction was taken on another day (shorter train at Haarlem station). On the day of the recording there was no time to make one while in action. :) Busy schedule! 0:00 Zandvoort aan Zee We start the ride in Zandvoort. The racing day is over and about 30.000 fans want to travel home by train. For that we have 12 direct trains an hour running in each direction between Zandvoort and Amsterdam (normally 2 trains an hour direct). Every 5 minutes there’s a sprinter on full length running. To give you an impression of the process I added a short time-lapse from NS at the start of the video. As soon as the train is fully loaded crowd control stops the boarding process and the train manager and assistant (driver at the back of the train) closes the doors. Ready for the ride? Off we go! 6:11 Overveen Due to the great number of trains an hour all railway crossings on the line are closed for traffic. The lights and fences are working. The bells are muted for people living close to the crossovers. Extra fences are in place to prevent people from passing. Because the platform of Overveen is only reachable by the small crossover all trains are cancelled at this station for three days. Extra busses are running to this station for passengers who need to get to Haarlem or Zandvoort. 7:43 Haarlem First stop! Haarlem. In this video you won’t see many passengers because the exits are all located behind my cabin. Everyone is walking away from my cab. In Amsterdam I will show you how many were still on board there. 12:16 Werkplaats Haarlem The workshop Haarlem for train maintenance. This is also the place where the VIRM trains are getting their upgrade. In Haarlem you could see two trains in the new livery. Really like the new look! Time for a little time-lapse! And wait for it! There’s more! :D 29:08 Backwards to Zandvoort! From this moment on I’ll be assisting the train manager with the boarding procedure. This is because the length of the train is too long for one person to oversee. Because of the short waiting time at Amsterdam and Zandvoort there are two drivers on board. On in the front and one in the back. The one in the back helps out the train manager with the boarding procedure. And the one in the front drives the train. This allows us to quickly change direction for a smooth process and lots of extra trains! This is done so we can let people off the train on one side. Then close the doors and open the other side for boarding. This to prevent ‘traffic jams’ on the platform. I hope you enjoyed this video!
