The Stewartstown Railroad, located in Stewartstown, PA (south of York and Harrisburg) is a small short line that runs between its namesake town and New Freedom, PA (home of the current "Steam Into History" operation), a distance of 7.4 miles. The route runs through scenic lands, passes two train stations, over several bridges, an enginehouse, farms, and other properties along the line - and it needs your help! Big Jim Video Productions recently had the opportunity to visit the line, which has open houses on certain weekends, offering speeder rides open to the public on the first mile of track. Footage was captured of the ride over the first mile of track. In addition, BJVP was offered a special opportunity, not available yet to the public - a ride along the entire length of the line, straight through to New Freedom, while the crew embarked on a weed spraying trip. Footage includes highlights along the route, grade crossings, farms, old buildings, and a few close calls as well with some overhanging shrubbery! The line is in need of significant maintenance to it's track and roadbed. In addition, the railroad's goal is to have one of its diesel engines, the "Mighty Mo" Plymouth, operating by the end of the year, and to have one of their passenger cars restored, so that they may start operating full-sized trips over upgraded trackage. But your help is needed to do that!
