Dr. Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na'im is Charles Howard Candler Professor of Law, Director of the Center for International and Comparative Law and Associated Professor at the Emory University School of Law, in Georgia (United States). His distinguished academic career has included tenures in Sudan, Canada, the United States and Sweden, amongst others. From 1993 to 1995 Dr. An-Na'im was also Executive Director of Human Rights Watch Africa. Dr. An-Na'im has published extensively on interfaith issues, Islam and human rights in Africa and further afield. In this interview for United Nations University Conversation Series on Global Justice, he discusses the complex challenges for Islam, human rights and spirituality in contemporary society and shares insights from his extensive research and study.
