Amity United Church of Christ The Twenty-third Sunday after Pentecost The Call to Worship – Isaiah 12, NKJV L: And in that day you will say: “O LORD, I will praise You; Though You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, and You comfort me. P: Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’” L: Therefore with joy you will draw water From the wells of salvation. P: And in that day you will say: “Praise the LORD, call upon His name; Declare His deeds among the peoples, Make mention that His name is exalted. L: Sing to the LORD, For He has done excellent things; This is known in all the earth. P: Cry out and shout, O inhabitant of Zion, For great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst!” The Prayer of Confession Heavenly Father, we have tried to obey Your Word. We have shown hospitality to some strangers, but not to all. We have remembered some in prison, and some who are mistreated, but not all. We have tried to be content with what we have, but have sometimes wanted more. Help us to want more deeply to walk with Jesus, help us to extend hospitality to all, help us to remember those in prison and those who are persecuted for Your Name. Help us to be content with what we have and to be dissatisfied with our sins. In Jesus’ name, Amen. The Statement of Faith Statement of Faith We believe in God, the Eternal Spirit, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and our Father, and to his deeds we testify: He calls the worlds into being, creates man in his own image and sets before him the ways of life and death. He seeks in holy love to save all people from aimlessness and sin. He judges men and nations by his righteous will declared through prophets and apostles. In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, our crucified and risen Lord, he has come to us and shared our common lot, conquering sin and death and reconciling the world to himself. He bestows upon us his Holy Spirit, creating and renewing the church of Jesus Christ, binding in covenant faithful people of all ages, tongues, and races. He calls us into his church to accept the cost and joy of discipleship, to be his servants in the service of men, to proclaim the gospel to all the world and resist the powers of evil, to share in Christ’s baptism and eat at his table, to join him in his passion and victory. He promises to all who trust him forgiveness of sins and fullness of grace, courage in the struggle for justice and peace, his presence in trial and rejoicing, and eternal life in his kingdom which has no end. Blessing and honor, glory and power be unto him. Amen.
