The pawn on g7 is backwards pawn and this moves stops Rxg7 and cementing black’s kingside pawns together. On top of that white’s pawns are now stuck on light square which improves black’s bishop and makes white’s bishop worse FEN: 3k3r/2pb2p1/1p1p1p2/5P2/3P2Rp/P1PB3P/1P3K2/8 w - - 0 1 Puzzle 3 f5, forcing Bxc4 after which the D-file opens and black is stuck with a backwards D-pawn, which is immediately lost.
