Watch this space for updates Update: Usage rate sodium citrate at 3.5% dissolves well with minimum 30% water to oil ratio, mix well before adding lye and after adding lye. Had no issues after lowering from 3.9% to 3.5%, seems to dissolve a lot easier Hello again everyone, today we’ll be making some dish and laundry bars using 3 chelators, one of them been the first time using in its raw form, Sodium Citrate. We usually use citric acid to make sodium citrate, however when wanting to use in conjunction with other chelators like sodium gluconate, you have to add it at trace because citric acid can react with sodium gluconate. Adding both sodium gluconate and sodium citrate in the water phase, dissolving, then adding the lye saves having to dissolve the sodium gluconate separately and adding it later. You also don’t need to add extra lye because both these additives do not consume any lye like citric acid does These bars are scented with Palmarosa essential oil and fixed down with cedarwood atlas, lightly coloured with French pink clay, it smells wonderful. Palmarosa does accelerate a little, so had to move quick! I didn’t realise it misbehaves because I’ve only ever used it in a blend! If you have a recipe calling for citric acid, sodium citrate can be used instead at a rate of: 1% citric acid = 1.9% sodium citrate or 19gm per kilo of oils 2% citric acid = 2.9% sodium citrate or 29gm per kilo of oils 3% citric acid = 3.9% sodium citrate of 39gm per kilo of oils I hope you enjoy the video, Thanks for watching and happy soaping!
