Ford Transit travel through Alabama and Tennessee is a masterclass in music history and legendary food. We’re taking our Sleeper Van to Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, the Crosstown Concourse, and hitting the best Memphis BBQ spots in the Delta. We’re trading the silence of Signal Mountain for the grit and groove of the Deep South. We started with a high-speed dash into Alabama, passing by the legendary FAME Studios to reach 3614 Jackson Highway. Walking into Muscle Shoals Sound Studio wasn't just a tour; it was a reunion with the soundtrack of Tree's youth. From there, we pushed Kitsune into Memphis, navigating the "vertical village" of the Crosstown Concourse, dining at Boa Toan, and surviving a gauntlet of world-famous fried chicken, charcoal-ribs and sugary delights. Between the haunted history of Ernestine & Hazel’s and the missing keys on Ray Charles' piano, we realized that while the South has some scars, its rhythm is still beating strong. From the birthplace of Helen Keller to a "vertical village" in Memphis, we’re chasing history, avoiding the "Jungle Room Tax," and eating our weight in charcoal-fired ribs! Whether you’re here for the music history, the van life logistics (yes, we parked a long-wheelbase Transit plus hitch mounted motorcycle carrier in downtown Memphis), or just the food porn, thanks for riding along with Enigma Expeditions! The Muscle Shoals Sound Studio Playlist: 🎸 The Rolling Stones – "Brown Sugar" and "Wild Horses" (1969). The Stones famously recorded these during a three-day session that cemented the studio's legendary status. 🎸 Paul Simon – "Kodachrome" and "Loves Me Like a Rock" (1973). Simon came looking for that specific "Swampers" groove. 🎸 Bob Seger – "Old Time Rock and Roll" and "Night Moves". Seger is one of the artists most synonymous with the studio's later success. 🎸 The Staple Singers – "I'll Take You There" and "Respect Yourself". This is where the "Soul" meets the "Studio"—Mavis Staples even shouts out the band members during the tracks. 🎸 Rod Stewart – "Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright)" (1976). 🎸Cher – 3614 Jackson Highway (The entire album). Her 1969 debut with the studio was so linked to the place she named the album after the address. 🎸Wilson Pickett – "Hey Jude". While Pickett did most of his early work at FAME, he followed the Swampers to their new studio to capture this soulful Beatles cover. 🎸Boz Scaggs – "Loan Me a Dime". This track features a legendary nearly 13-minute blues jam with Duane Allman on guitar. Thanks for watching!
