What is a Solid Tumor? A solid tumor is an abnormal mass of tissue that usually does not contain cysts or liquid areas, which can occur almost anywhere in the body. Major types of Solid Tumors Sarcomas are a type of tumor that can arise in various types of tissues such as blood vessels, bones, fat tissues, ligaments, lymph vessels, muscles, and tendons. There are many different types of sarcomas, including Ewing sarcoma and osteosarcoma which are bone cancer sarcomas, and rhabdomyosarcoma which is a soft tissue sarcoma found in muscles. Carcinomas are tumors that develop in the epithelial cells, which are present in the skin, glands, and linings of organs such as the bladder, ureters, and kidneys. Pediatric Solid tumors Neuroblastoma is a type of cancer typically found in the belly of infants and young children. Wilms tumor, on the other hand, is a cancer that occurs in one or both kidneys and is typically found in children aged about 3 to 4 years old.
