Enduring Activity: 2021 Cerebral Palsy Updates: Achieving Excellence in Multidisciplinary Care “Nutritional Strategies for Cerebral Palsy” Evaluation and Credit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/8KCP7SL Target Audience This activity is designed for physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses and allied health professionals in the practice of pediatrics, primary care, neurosurgery, neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and orthopedic surgery. Statement of Need About 500,000 children under age 18 in the United States currently have cerebral palsy, according to United Cerebral Palsy. A goal of the Cerebral Palsy Foundation is its Early Detection Initiative, which has reduced the age of detection from 2 years to 10 ½ months in its network. Earlier detection leads to earlier therapies and interventions, resulting in better long-term outcomes. This program will recognize the importance of early detection and provide clinicians the tools to recognize symptoms for early diagnosis as well as discuss the latest treatment options and strategies of the multidisciplinary team. Highlighting excellence in care, better patient outcomes will be achieved. Objectives At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to: 1) Discuss methods for assessing nutritional status. 2) Explore energy, protein, fluid and micronutrient needs. 3) Discuss gastrointestinal issues. 4) Discuss strategies to correct these disorders and improve nutritional status.
