To get the best out of 3D printing, it helps if you can design your own parts. In this tutorial series, we will learn to use a free 3D CAD program to do just that. In this episode, we design a bracket and mount that needs to be quite strong. To achieve this, three parts are used instead of one, so they can each print with the strongest print orientation. They are joined using bolts into trapped nuts, as well as bolts that cut their own thread. We also cover design features and slicer tips for increased strength. 0:00 Introduction 3D design for 3D printing Onshape playlist: • 3D design for 3D printing tutorials Direct link to create a free account: https://www.onshape.com/en/products/free Source CAD for tutorials: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/b54... 0:43 What we are designing 1:17 Taking measurements Digital calipers on Amazon : https://amzn.to/3Bu6yjN 1:45 Design considerations: Layer line direction dictates strength Previous beginner friendly video: • Why understanding the structure of wood ca... 2:42 Base clamp design 5:08 Trapped nut design 6:52 Slicing, printing and test fitting the base clamp 8:04 Item tray/shelf design 10:10 Slicing, printing and test fitting the shelf 11:17 Strong bracket design 15:16 Slicing and printing bracket 15:54 Assembly and final part Buy quality and affordable filament from X3D.
