In this discussion, Robert Kirsch, CAPAS fellow of the cohorte in 2022-2023 and professor at Arizona State University shares his thoughts on apocalypses, social change, and historical ruptures. Filmed in the world-famous National Museum of Mexico at the Chapultepec Castle in Mexico City, he reflects on neoliberal structures, political system changes, and the significance of resistance movements. He analyzes the famous mural by José Clemente Orozco, depicting Benito Juárez and the fight for the Mexican Republic. Drawing parallels to global class struggles, he also explores the concept of the "interregnum," as described by Antonio Gramsci - a time when the old world is dying, but the new one cannot yet be born. A key theme of his research is the inability to envision the future. He warns against retreating into protective mechanisms and fear, instead of seeking better societal possibilities. Thank you to the whole team of the National Museum of Mexico at the Chapultepec Castle for having us! The video is part of an interview series accompanying the IMAGINING END TIMES exhibition, and the according documentary film.
