One of the central themes for the world’s population over the next hundred years will be energy. For many people, energy stands for performance, progress, and prosperity. At the same time, energy is perceived as a constant problem: there never seems to be enough of it, and its production is still associated with many negative impacts today. This has led us to develop an “either–or” narrative: technology versus nature, profit versus ethics, progress versus humanity. But is energy really the problem—or is it the way we think about it? Energy can be more than performance; it can connect, heal, and redistribute. Perhaps we should not use energy to extract and deplete, but to build systems that give back more than they take. A shift away from Homo economicus toward Homo symbioticus. Christian Naef, CEO & Co-Founder of RY3T, is pioneering a sustainable energy system that turns computing power into value.
