For me as a formerly incarcerated person I can tell you that I lived through generational incarceration generational mental health concerns and my life was completely out of control But yet when I hit the drum there was a subconscious feeling of control And that led me to taking control of behaviors such as substance use other mental health concerns like depression anxiety All of those things have come into my life through the rhythm of wellness Drum circles began way back in the 1600s in a place of the Choctaw and Chickasaw called Bulbacha later to become the famed city of New Orleans So for the first time in recorded history Native Americans Africans Europeans people from all over the world were able to gather with a common language of group drumming So today we've taken that idea of coming together and created a wellness intervention that we call drumming sounds All right put your hands out I'm gonna teach you the love and gratitude rhythm It goes like this Love and gratitude Say it with me Love and gratitude Drumming sounds is an evidence-based approach to utilizing group drumming and sound medicine When you're ready you can join in in putting this intention on the drum ......... As a wellness intervention to help people that are dealing with substance use disorder and other mental health concerns regulate their nervous system and live an optimal life We had a large group of incarcerated people and we also had a group of people that were working in the institution officers staff members And to see that level of integration was so powerful I felt a sense of family here I didn't know these people first time I ever met them But drumming with them I felt supported I felt connected and I know that they felt that way too because of their smiles and their reactions Get a free copy of the book ... https://www.thesacredseven.com/
