(3 Mar 2026) RESTRICTIONS SUMMARY: ASSOCIATED PRESS Beijing , China - 03 March 2026 Spokesperson: Mao Ning 1. With Iran situation intensifying, Wang Yi made phone calls with his counterparts of multiple countries. Comment? (Part 1) Foreign Minister Wang Yi in past days held phone calls respectively with the foreign ministers of Russia, Iran, France, and Oman, to elaborate on China’s position and actively promote peace and cease the conflict. Foreign Minister Wang Yi pointed out that it is unacceptable for the United States and Israel to launch attacks on Iran during the negotiation process. And it is unacceptable to openly assassinate the leader of a sovereign state and incite regime change. These actions violate international law and the basic norms governing international relations. China’s position is: first, immediately cease military operations; second, return to dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible; third, jointly oppose unilateral actions. 2.With Iran situation intensifying, Wang Yi made phone calls with his counterparts of multiple countries. Comment? (Part 2) Wang Yi emphasized that China supports Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, territorial integrity, and national dignity, and in defending its legitimate rights and interests. China attaches importance to the legitimate concerns of the Gulf countries and supports them in safeguarding their sovereignty and national security. Major powers must not rely on military superiority to arbitrarily attack other countries. The world must not return to the law of the jungle. The international community should oppose any acts that violate international law. It is necessary to jointly uphold the basic norms governing international relations. China will continue to play a constructive role, including on the platform of the United Nations Security Council, in upholding justice, striving for peace, and preventing war. 3. When Israel attacked Iran, a girls’ school was bombed. More recently, Iran’s public broadcaster IRIB’s building was target in the attacks. Media said that similar patterns of targeting civilians, civilian facilities, journalists and children were seen before in Gaza. What’s China’s comment? We are deeply grieved by the large number of civilian casualties in the conflict. The red line of protecting civilians in armed conflicts must not be crossed. Indiscriminate use of force is unacceptable. China calls on all parties to fulfil their obligations under international law, effectively safeguard civilian safety, and avoid attacks on civilian facilities. 4. On 2 Mach, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said Iran has no structured program to manufacture nuclear weapons and other countries may have their own political considerations. China has advocated resolving the Iranian nuclear issue peacefully through dialogue and negotiation, and respects Iran’s legitimate right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy. We have noted that Iran has repeatedly reaffirmed that it has no intention of developing nuclear weapons. Iran has recently engaged in serious and substantive negotiations with the United States. The Iranian nuclear issue must ultimately return to the track of a political and diplomatic solution. We call for an immediate cessation of military operations, a prompt return to dialogue and negotiations, the safeguarding of the international nuclear non-proliferation regime, and the preservation of peace and stability in the Middle East and the world.
