The Creative Curiosity project was funded by the Arts Council of Wales Arts, Health and Wellbeing fund and was led by SPAN Arts, in partnership with Preseli Cares, CWMPAS and PAVS. This project harnessed the arts to ignite community curiosity and empower local residents to collaboratively address social care challenges. Through a series of workshops in rural North Pembrokeshire, participants—including carers, individuals over 50, and young people—engaged in artist-led sessions in collage, textiles, and animation. The workshops explored themes such as loneliness, isolation, access to services, rural transport, and the importance of community and nature. By using the arts as a medium for creative expression and well-being, the project aimed to create a visual evidence base that supports a social model of service provision. This evidence is intended to inform local policy and advocate for long-term systemic change. The outcomes have been widely shared, with the works being on display at the Hywel Dda head offices in Autumn of 2024, before moving on to be displayed amongst the community. Additionally, SPAN commissioned Cwmpas to assess the project’s impact through Ripple Effect Mapping, revealing that participants felt a stronger sense of community and noted significant positive changes in their lives.
