Australia stood still at Bondi Beach in Sydney as the nation remembered the victims of a deadly gun attack that targeted a Hanukkah festival event. Mourners laid flowers, held candles and observed a minute of silence at the exact moment the attack began one week ago. A helicopter flew over Bondi Beach carrying a message of solidarity with Australia’s Jewish community. Hundreds gathered at the main memorial in New South Wales, listening to speeches by NSW Jewish Board of Deputies President David Ossip and prayers offered by rabbis. Bee-shaped balloons were released in memory of the youngest victim, lovingly nicknamed “Matilda Bee.” Australian flags filled the crowd as emotions ran high.
