48 Hours in Stowe, Vermont | Meeting the Von Trapps?! | Summer in Vermont

Check out our summer adventure to Stowe, Vermont, where we visited some of the city's best sites including the Ben & Jerry's Factory, the Von Trapp Family Lodge, the Von Trapp Brewery, and the Waterbury Reservoir. Stowe, Vermont is a small city tucked into the verdant mountains of Vermont. It's a city that is full of fun things to do in all seasons, but especially in summer. For the adventurous, there are plenty of outdoor activities to do around the city including hiking, skiing, paddleboarding, biking, and more. For the food and drink lovers, Stowe offers a surprising amount of delicious restaurants, cafes, and breweries to try that will keep you busy for weeks. We had plenty of good culinary experiences while in Stowe, but our favorite had to be the Von Trapp Brewery. If you aren't familiar with the Von Trapps just by their name, they are the family made famous by the classic movie, the Sound of Music. A little known fact is that they ended up moving to Vermont after leaving Austria! And, as luck would have it, we were able to meet some of the Von Trapp grandchildren that were working at the brewery! It was genuinely a celebrity moment for both of us (especially Rachel) to meet a Von Trapp in real life after spending much of our life watching the Sound of Music. Another experience we would highly recommend is visiting the Ben & Jerry's Factory that is just south of Stowe in Waterbury. While Ben & Jerry's wasn't offering tours of their factory when we visited in Summer 2021, they still offered us the opportunity to try some rare flavors of their favorite ice cream. We also were able to explore Ben & Jerry's Flavor Graveyard, which was made to remember some of the flavors that have "died" (been discontinued) throughout the years.
