Got FND? Experience the peace of mind that comes with having a dedicated care partner by your side, navigating the complexities of FND with you. When my body first said “stop,” I didn’t have language for it. Seven years of uncertainty, invasive tests, and kind clinicians guessing: brain cancer? MS? Parkinson’s? Autoimmune encephalitis? I didn’t know what was happening to my brain—and neither did anyone else. In Feb 2021, the diagnosis finally came: Functional Neurological Disorder. The hardest part wasn’t the label. It was isolation. What changed everything was being seen and heard, learning my nervous system’s signals, and finding a community where I could borrow belief until mine returned. That journey became my book, FiNDing Hope, and the heartbeat of Thrive Together Network. I speak for people like me—like you—like anyone suddenly navigating a complex diagnosis. I speak to loved ones and care partners, and to the educators and leaders who support them. When I learned there was hope, I was having 8–10 seizures a day, each 10–30 minutes, with central apnea. I was terrified and alone. Hope, skills, and community changed my lens—and my life. Your body’s alarm is built to keep you alive, not calm. Fight, flight, freeze, or please isn’t weakness. It’s a loud alarm. We regulate first, then reason. Try this now: sit tall, hand on belly, inhale through your nose for four, exhale through pursed lips for seven, like cooling hot chocolate. Do that three times. Name one sensation that just softened. That longer exhale turns the volume down so your thinking brain can come back online. A simple DBT skill you can use today before any hard conversation: name, validate, plan. I feel overloaded when priorities shift last minute because it compresses my focus and delivery. I need as much advance notice as possible, ideally 24 hours, so I can plan well. I can see you’re managing a lot too. Could we try a shared alert for updates and a quick end‑of‑day check‑in to flag changes early? Regulation first protects dignity on both sides and moves you from conflict to collaboration. Community over isolation. I host small, brave cohorts where we practice these tools together. We don’t chase perfection—we practice presence. People write their stories, have them witnessed out loud, borrow belief from the group, and leave with one tiny action they can actually do. The transformation is real: less shame, more agency, a felt sense of belonging. That’s the Thrive Together Network brand in action. I speak to professionals about advocating for needs without derailing careers, to educators on using practical DBT skills to guard against compassion fatigue, to leaders on building psychologically safe teams where health isn’t a liability, and to care partners on how to support without losing yourself. Every talk blends story, skills, and a clear take‑home like my Thrive 15 checklist so change sticks beyond the room. When my own strength is thin, even mid‑talk, I pause, breathe, and pray. I ask for God’s strength where mine runs out. Then I take the next small step. You are not alone. It’s possible to thrive with the right support and skills. Say yes to yourself. Practice the tools. Show up with love, curiosity, and compassion—especially for you. I’m Jocelyn Bystrom—Adlerian counselor, educational leader, living joyfully with Functional Neurological Disorder, and author of FiNDing Hope: The Mind‑Body Connection & Importance of Being Seen and Heard. If you’re curating a conference or training where mind, body, heart, and soul well‑being matter, I’ll bring nervous‑system literacy, DBT in action, and a warm, evidence‑informed path you can use the same day. Let’s help you feel seen, supported, and ready to thrive. Check out: thrive.thrive-together-network.com to learn more.
