Press Statement For Immediate Release - 18th Jan 2025 EPA is affronted and shocked by the unprecedented gruesome, extremely savage and barbaric slaughter and massacre of citizens of South Sudan in Sudan's Wad Medani, Al Jazeera state, by members of SAF and its allied militia forces on 14th/15th January 2025. EPA expresses its deepest and profound condolences to the victims' families and communities from which they hail. EPA strongly condemns in no uncertain terms the war crimes against unarmed and innocent citizens of South Sudan in Wad Medani, and holds the perpetrators in the chain of command and control wholly responsible and accountable for these heinous war crimes and crimes against humanity. The long arm of the rule of law will bring justice for the innocent victims, no matter the time and place, it shall be. That said, the outbreak of the existential war in the Sudan has fatally and terminally fragmented and annulled the long failed state. It comes as no surprise that the residual constitutional order and rule of law that held the fragile country together, has long disintegrated and diminished into hopelessly fractious warring forces in a zero-sum existential political struggle. Over 2 million estimated citizens of South Sudan since independence are today still caught up as refugees in the Sudan, unable to return to their supposedly nascent independent state and home country in fear for their lives from the country's de facto genocidal, tribal and corrupt regime that has equally been responsible, according to UN accounts, for the death of over 400,000 lives of South Sudanese citizens since the outbreak of the civil war in 2013 and 2016 due to political violence and failure of the state. Equally another 2 million of native Equatoria population constituted the single largest exodus of refugees in Africa in 2016 since the Rwandan genocide of the 1994, to Uganda, Kenya and the DRC. The grim statistics bear testimony of the failed state in South Sudan having forcibly emptied the country of its population by over 4 million citizens to neighbouring countries as refugees and stateless, many of who are now caught up as victims of heinous war crimes and barbaric, unprecedented massacres of innocent unarmed civilians by the military and unregulated so called allied SAF militias in the Sudan. The grim statistics bear testimony of the failed state in South Sudan having forcibly emptied the country of its population by over 4 million citizens to neighbouring countries as refugees and stateless, many of who are now caught up as victims of heinous war crimes and barbaric, unprecedented massacres of innocent unarmed civilians by the so called allied SAF militias in the Sudan. EPA holds the failed state in South Sudan, and the tyrannical, corrupt, military dictatorship of Gen. Salva Kiir in Juba, wholly responsible for the genocidal policies that drove the country on a downward spiral to disintegration by its enduring rebellion against the people and state building for over a decade since the country's independence in 2011. The De facto rebel R-TGONU has added to its distinction an acute economic rebellion with ceased revenues from oil production, coupled with state collapse as the entire country's civil service staff, regular and organised forces go for 15 consecutive months without paid salaries to support their livelihoods, whilst million of dollars are looted and emptied from state coffers by the ruling tribal elites of the deep state. This regime is the first root and primary cause of the unspeakable suffering of the people in the country. It presided unperturbed, over massacres of innocent native Equatorian civilians in Kajokeji, Lokiliri, Ngangala, Mangella, Tambura, Wondrouba, Jebel Ladu, Abare and Akoro. Neither the Fertit in Western Bahr el Ghazal, nor the Chollo in Malakal escaped bleeding at the hands of Salva Kiir's state sponsored genocidal policies that have put the lives of the people of South Sudan at stake in UN Protection of Civilians Centres (POCs) as hostages, inside and outside the country. This gun trotting Juba regime, with its infamous and murderous replica of the Sudan National Security Service (NSS) in our country must end by the united mass action of the people's uprising to bring in its place a peoples' shared sovereignty dispensation in a transitional union in which sovereignty inheres in the people for legitimacy and exercise of political power solely by and for the people as the only viable alternative way forward to rid the country of military dictatorship that has made the country a failed state. To transition out of the failed R-ARCSS state, EPA proposes a peoples new alliance for democracy and freedom action to forge the new alternative way forward for total overhaul of the State to institute a new transition by the consent of our people and their inalienable right to enjoyment and protection of liberty and freedom to live in their ancestral homelands.
