Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a warning that global conflicts could affect Ukraine’s ability to defend its skies. In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Zelensky explained that the growing conflict in the Middle East may increase global demand for air defense systems such as Patriot missiles. If multiple regions require the same interceptor missiles, Ukraine could face difficulties maintaining its air defense network. Ukraine has relied heavily on these systems to intercept Russian missiles and drones targeting cities and infrastructure since Russia launched its full-scale invasion. In this report we examine: • Zelensky’s warning about possible missile shortages • How the Middle East conflict could affect global weapons supply • Why Patriot interceptors are critical for Ukraine’s defense • Concerns in Kyiv about international attention shifting away • The broader challenge of sustaining air defense during a prolonged war As global conflicts unfold, Ukraine continues watching closely to ensure the systems protecting its cities remain operational.
