An Overview of Radical Critiques of Work

Presentation for Degrowth Conference 2018 in Malmö, Sweden "An Overview of Radical Critiques of Work" Both the Marxist and anarchist traditions of radicalism are divided along the productivist/anti-productivist divide. In the 19th century, work was criticized but rarely attacked fundamentally. After the transformation of work in the 20th century (from Taylorism to Toyotism), criticism of work became more radical. I talk about the Marxists Gorz, Hirsch, and Srnicek/Williams and about the anarchists Zerzan, Black, and CrimethInc. This presentation is a very short version of a full-length article that will be published in the Routledge Handbook of Radical Politics (ed. Kinna/Gordon).
