‘Mon Fakira Moneri Kotha’ is a series of metaphorical statements and philosophical musings. The vivid description of bamboo trees bearing chillies and brinjal plants bearing silk gourds symbolise the unexpected and unconventional imagination that lies in these musings. The song expresses the thoughts and reflections being shared between one’s ‘Fakir’ soul and the innermost core of one’s heart and mind. It states that such conversations can only be understood by wise Gurus, thus emphasising the importance of spiritual understanding. The verses touch upon the transient nature of relationships and the innumerous mysteries of life, beyond human comprehension. The song points out the unique perspective on the world that every individual soul, heart and mind have and the wisdom that they seek through these imaginations. This song has been written and composed by the songwriter-composer, ‘Padmalochan’ from Birbhum, West Bengal, as is evident from the lyrics - “Ar Pada beta emni thenta, Padmalochan emni boka” meaning “And this ‘Pada’ guy is so stubborn, Padmalochan is so foolish” This is a common way in Baul Music to label a song with the name of its creator. This community started with the largest Cultural Revolution in the history of human civilization, the Bhakti Movement led by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Their syncretic traditions are the outcome of a culmination of Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism. Baul Music and Philosophy are deeply intertwined, with the Music serving as a medium for expressing and exploring our inner-self and the world around us, in search of the Divine. They also emphasise the importance of love, compassion, and tolerance, and reject distinctions based on caste, religion, or social status. Duality is a common theme in Baul song lyrics, with allegorical narratives using metaphors. ‘Deho-tatva’ – a recurring premise in Baul lyrics – is a concept of portraying nature and the universe through our bodies, which reflects the immortality of the cycle of life and death. It connects sex and spirituality – spiritual union of the individual with the Divine - to attain Moksha. #BaulSong #BengaliSong #FolkSong #Music #FolkMusic #BaulMusic #BengaliMusic #Singer #BaulSinger #BengaliSinger #FolkSinger #Artiste #BaulArtiste #BengaliArtiste #FolkArtiste #Performer #BaulPerformer #BengaliPerformer #FolkPerformer #Musician #BaulMusician #BengaliMusician #FolkMusician #DehoTatva #Padmalochan #BasudebDasBaul #RabiDasBaul #MonFakiraMonerKotha #Mohammad #Manik #BrindabanDasBaul #PathikDasBaul #SubhamoyDasBaul #BolpurAshram #GaanFun #FILMSTOP #SujoyDas
