The 'Twilo Demo Mix' was an early demo version of the third House music release from now legendary NYC Gospel House queen Vernessa Mitchell. The millennial follow-up to her earlier classics "Reap" and "This Joy," this early version of "Trouble Don't Last Always" takes the track in a deep, dark, minimal direction which ultimately lost out to the brighter & more uplifting "Sunday Morning Mix" (JVM Records, 2001). Long unreleased & largely forgotten, this dark minimal production with its incredibly haunting vocal layering and superbly processed beats is immediately reminiscent of the era & club that gave rise to it, and as such is deserving of its own place in the history of House Music. Thus, it is with this nearly-forgotten gem that I give you my collected photographs of NYC's legendary club TWILO. The video contains some 27 images of the dancefloor, lights, bleachers, and various disco balls that graced the legendary space on 27th Street between 1999 and the club's closing on May 5, 2001. 13 years after its demise, this magical era of "Clubland" is too long gone and too nearly forgotten to NOT share these beautiful images while the people they will mean something to are here to appreciate them. To those people: I hope these images bring you the same joy they've brought me. Sit back, listen & watch and I hope you too will recall for even a moment that very particular feeling that could only be felt at TWILO. *Note: As far as I know, as of 2013 these images exist only in my collection; I know of no one else who has them. However, I did not personally take most of the photos, nor is my intention to infringe on the rights of those who did. I've cleared release of the photos with the photographers where possible, and am glad to field concerns from anybody I was not able to reach in advance.
