CASTRATION IN DOGS Sedate the dog with xylazine and butarphenol@1:1 ratio @1ml/10kg body wt wait for 10-15 min until animal sedate. *Place I/V cannula - go with propofol, diazepam according to standards, then check for respiration, . *Then proceed with Tramadol, meloxicam, lignocaine, antibiotic -I/V. *Record all parameters like-cmm,STT, dehydration, respiration rate,pulse rate,heart beat. *Shave the area arround scrotum , prescrotal area, then emptied the urinary bladder completely. *By pushing the prepuce of penis upto bulbus glandis check for any TVT Growth. *Inject lignocaine 2% prescrotal area and intra scrotal (inside each testicles angle of 90°). Place the animal on operation table in dorsal recumbency. *Based on body weight or nostril diameter- select the size of Endotracheal tube(ET tube)-push the tongue in between canine teeth of mandible and pull and hold the ET tube like pencil and push the epiglotis ventrally (down) and place the ET tube inside trachea in between vocal cords. Scrub the surgical area-standard operating protocol(SOP),Place the surgical sterile drape with window on animal. Place towel clamps- push one testicle cranially towards prescrotal site and give incision and squeeze the testicle -tear the avascular ligament part and pull the testicle upand cranially . *Milk out all fat tissue arround spermatic cord and place two curved artery forceps one above the other 1 2 cm gap take chromic catgut -0 size place 1 cm below down clamp - make knot surgeon knot , next make another knot at crush formed after removal of down clamp, then place straight artery forcep above the clamp and cut in between two clamps.Check the knots before leaving for any bleeding. Repeat the same procedure for next testicle push into same incision site. Repeat same procedure. *Close the incision with the help of PGA(poly glycolic acid)-1-0 size subcutaneous suture pattern by avoiding median raphae(septum). Then intradermal suturing with same suture material- make last knot (aberdeen knot 🪢) -birried the knot contralateral side of last bite in intradermal suturing. #veterinary #castration #dog #animal #birthcontrol @dr_wise_vet
