The Marathon Petroleum's Los Angeles Refinery in Carson experienced a huge explosion and subsequent fire beginning around 10:45pm on February 25, 2020. The initial explosion was reportedly heard as far away as the San Fernando Valley. This is the largest west coast refinery, primarily producing diesel and gasoline for California’s market. This was the live feed from the top of the broadcast of CBS2's News at 11:00pm. A few minutes after this recording, the traffic on the 405 freeway was halted by the California Highway Patrol. Update from the LA Times (https://www.latimes.com/environment/s...) on Feb 27, 2020: "The fire that broke out Tuesday at the West Coast’s largest oil refinery — Marathon Petroleum in Carson — was sparked in a section of the plant that California inspectors recently cited for workplace safety violations, Cal/OSHA officials confirmed Thursday. The late-night explosion occurred in a unit where gasoline is produced, known as the No. 2 reformer. That’s the same part of the refinery that was cited in November by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health for four violations after a July inspection, according to both Cal/OSHA and Dave Campbell, secretary-treasurer for the United Steelworkers Local 675, which represents nearly all the refineries in the South Bay."
