African Blackwood - The most expensive wood in the world growing right at our farm

We recently discovered that we have the tree that produces the most expensive wood in the world growing at New Harvest Farm. African Blackwood(Dalbergia melanoxylon) is a native hardwood tree that produces an extremely hard, dark wood much sought after for making instruments. The trees grow extremely slow(80-100 years to maturity) creating a very dense heart wood. This wood can sometimes fetch more than $10,000 per cubic meter. African Blackwood is a near threatened species of hardwood that has been under significant pressure in our region from illegal logging. We have had early success in propagating African Blackwood and we hope that it can play a significant role in our future #agroforestry efforts. #syntropy #trees
