Cold wave to intensify in Odisha after Christmas | IMD warns of sharp temperature drop

Cold wave conditions across Odisha are set to intensify further from December 25, according to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre. Weather officials have warned that a fresh spell of severe cold will grip the state due to the increased flow of dry and cold north-westerly winds, combined with the departure effect of a western disturbance. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that night temperatures are expected to fall sharply in several districts, with some areas likely to witness a drop of up to 7 degrees Celsius. Dense fog is already prevailing in many regions and may intensify further due to moisture-laden air circulation at lower atmospheric levels, affecting visibility and daily life. Officials noted that Odisha has already recorded season’s lowest temperatures multiple times, especially in interior and western districts. Meteorologists said the current trend aligns with earlier IMD forecasts and warned residents to remain cautious, particularly the elderly and vulnerable populations.
