John Ross, M.D., Dialysis Access Surgeon - MUSC Health

Dr. John Ross is a distinguished surgical educator with over 30 years of experience in dialysis access procedures for patients with kidney failure. As the founding physician of MUSC Health Dialysis Access Institute, he specializes in vascular access for hemodialysis, research and development of improved devices and procedures, and alternative approaches to hemodialysis access management. He and his team have developed and implemented a comprehensive access care program, inclusive of patient, physician, and public education. Dr. Ross earned his medical degree and completed his residency through the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He began his career as a general surgeon and progressed to specialize in vascular access research and procedures. Founding member and first vice president of the Vascular Access Society of America, Dr. Ross has been at the forefront of dialysis access clinical trials. He has published numerous articles and has contributed to many books, including a chapter in the textbook, Rutherford’s Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy. He is also a member of the editorial board of The Journal of Vascular Access and the editorial advisory board of Endovascular Today. Dr. Ross was recently appointed to the faculty of MUSC as an affiliate assistant professor and is currently, the state’s only surgeon designated as a member of the American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Surgeon Educators.
