Tibetan is a Sino-Tibetan language spoken primarily by Tibetans in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, as well as in parts of India, Nepal, and Bhutan. It belongs to the Bodish branch of the Tibeto-Burman family and has several dialects, with Central Tibetan (Standard Tibetan) based on the Lhasa variety serving as the prestige dialect. Tibetan has a rich literary tradition dating back over a thousand years, largely influenced by Buddhist scriptures. It is written in the Tibetan script, an abugida developed in the 7th century. While spoken Tibetan varies significantly across regions, the written form remains relatively uniform and is an important medium for religious and cultural expression. The Mizo language, also known as Duhlian or Lusei, is a tonal language that belongs to the Central Kuki-Chin branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. It is the official language of Mizoram, a state in northeastern India, and is also spoken by Mizo communities in Manipur, southern Assam (especially the Barak Valley), eastern Tripura, as well as parts of Myanmar (notably Chin State) and Bangladesh (mainly in the Chittagong Hill Tracts). The total number of speakers is estimated at around 900,000 to 1 million. Mizo is written in the Roman script, which was introduced and standardized by Christian missionaries in the late 19th century, leading to high literacy rates. The language has a strong oral tradition, including proverbs, folktales, hymns, and songs. Despite multiple dialects, the Duhlian dialect is used as the standardized form in education, government, and media.
