India is bracing for a massive nationwide general strike on Wednesday, July 9, with over 25 crore workers expected to participate. A forum of 10 central trade unions has called for the Bharat Bandh to protest against what they call the government’s anti-worker, anti-farmer and pro-corporate policies. The strike is expected to hit banking services, postal services, coal mining, state transport, highway construction, public sector units and government departments. Farmers and rural workers are also joining the protests. Amarjeet Kaur from the All India Trade Union Congress says unions across both formal and informal sectors have prepared extensively for the strike. Schools and colleges are expected to remain open, along with private offices. However, passengers may experience train delays or disruptions due to protests. Union leaders accuse the government of ignoring workers’ rights by imposing four new labour codes that weaken collective bargaining and favour employers. They also blame economic policies for rising unemployment, higher prices, wage stagnation, and cuts in essential services. #bharatbandh, #generalstrike, #indiaprotests, #tradeunionstrike, Thank you for watching our video!
