They operate similarly to traditional Metal Halide (MH) systems with the exception of using a Quartz arc tube; they are made of Ceramic. Ceramic arc tube bulbs such as used in CMH and HPS systems allow for higher arc temperatures. In CMH systems, these higher operating temperatures allow for an ideal mixture of salts, halides, and gases, which produce a color spectrum more full than any other HID lamps. The full spectrum of light achieved by CMH grow systems allow for wide amounts of both ultraviolet and infrared rays to be delivered to the plant.
