Las Vegas tourism slump linked to rising costs, expert analysis reveals

As tourism in Southern Nevada faces a downturn, many locals attribute the slump to rising prices, particularly on the Las Vegas Strip. Regina Knight, a local resident, expressed her frustration, saying, "There's no likelihood. It's too expensive. Everything. Fees. Everything. It's too expensive." Knight reminisced about more affordable times, stating, "I used to come out here for vacation and prices was good, but I've been here for two years... so, no. It's crazy now." Despite perceptions of skyrocketing room rates, data from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) shows the average room rate on the Strip in June was $174, with downtown rates at $87 per night. These figures represent a slight decrease year-over-year downtown and nearly a 7% drop on the Strip.
