Colorado National Monument, Grand Junction, CO.

First, this video is very long because I included the dashcam video of the entire 23 miles of the Rim Rock Road in the Monument. But feel free to fast-forward to the viewpoints and overlooks and the visitor center if you prefer. Colorado National Monument is in Colorado. Duh! But Grand Junction is only about 30 miles from the Utah border, and the rim of the Colorado Plateau extends into Utah, so I include the Colorado National Monument in my Canyonlands of Southern Utah YouTube category. The canyonlands are spectacular. Nature doesn’t pay any attention to artificial political boundaries. The Monument rises up to 2000 feet above the valley floor and contains a wealth of plateau-and-canyon red rock geology. The excellent paved road extends 23 miles (though it connects two points that are only 8 miles apart) and affords inspiring views of sheer-walled cliffs, deep canyons, and towering rock formations. The road is popular with bicyclists as well as motorists. I have driven on I-70 past the Colorado National Monument many times, but this was the first time I stopped—on impulse—to visit the site. I drove to the visitor center first, which is close to the western (Fruita) end of the monument. But I realized I had to go back down to the entrance and start all over. Oh, my, this place is gorgeous. It just begged for a dashcam video of the drive. I found the views of the Grand Valley from the Rim Rock Road fascinating. The vista is enormous. My video covers the monument starting at the Fruita end and exits at the Grand Junction end.
