Teritoriul se afla la est de Carpați, între Milcov și Siret, în zona controlată militar de cumani, dar locuită în mare parte de români ortodocși (menționați în documente ca „valahi”). Rolul episcopiei era politic și religios: să atragă cumanii în catolicism și să-i integreze în sfera de influență a Ungariei, reducând totodată legătura românilor cu Patriarhia de Constantinopol. The territory was located east of the Carpathians, between Milcov and Siret, in the area militarily controlled by the Cumans, but inhabited largely by Orthodox Romanians (mentioned in documents as "Wallachians"). The role of the diocese was political and religious: to attract the Cumans to Catholicism and integrate them into the sphere of influence of Hungary, while reducing the Romanians' connection with the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
