June 12 and 13, 2024 Welcome to our little farm. As I say fairly often...please remember that I am NO EXPERT. I am simply sharing experiences along the way, and hope to provide content that the majority of you can relate to. We don't pretend around here. We haven't created this illusion that farm life and decision making is easy. It is not easy. There are challenging situations that come up, and we may handle them differently than someone else. And that is okay. Sugar is our "rescue mare". She came to us in January, and was obviously very pregnant. Her hooves were horrifically over grown, and our hearts broke as we saw first-hand what the lack of proper hoof care had done to this sweet girl. We have been trying hard to correct her hooves with regular trimming, but it is a long process when there are likely years of damage here. We do not know the full extent of her lameness, rather than we are trying to get her foal out healthy, and then continue our care for Sugar. To truly make a final decision for Sugar's future, she will need full x-rays on all her feet. As it sits, we are choosing to wait until the pressure of the baby weight is off, and then make these decisions as we go. This is a little hobby farm, where our goal is animal health and well-being...along with their happiness of course. We believe a healthy and well-cared for animal will be content (or happy if you're looking for people terms). Thanks for tagging along, and creating a positive community here on this channel.
