Global Industrial Ecology Day 2025 brings together leading LCA experts to introduce the vision for a Global LCA Platform – a one-stop ecosystem to make life cycle assessment data, methods and capacity more accessible, interoperable and trusted worldwide. In this webinar, colleagues from UNEP’s Life Cycle Initiative, Tsinghua University, University of Leeds and other partners present how the Platform will build on existing efforts (including GLAD) and align with UNEP’s global environmental data strategy to support better, evidence-based decisions in policy and practice. The session starts with an introduction to the Life Cycle Initiative and its role in advancing life cycle approaches over the past two decades. It then sets out the Global LCA Platform’s core objective: to lower the entry barriers to LCA by improving access to open and high-quality data, harmonised methods and robust capacity-building resources. The webinar walks through the work of four dedicated working groups: governance and stakeholder engagement; standards and methodologies (including common ontologies and data schemas); data quality, review and curation; and technical infrastructure, such as knowledge graphs, APIs and open-source tools. This recording is particularly relevant for LCA practitioners, database developers, policymakers, researchers and industry stakeholders interested in shaping the future global LCA infrastructure. Watch to understand the emerging blueprint for the Global LCA Platform, and hear how you can get involved in the working groups. You can stay informed on the latest developments via the Life Cycle Initiative newsletter and LinkedIn updates.
