/ fathercorapicatholicchannel Father John Corapi... "In this hour I'm going to talk about the role of Penance and Sacrifice..The Cross. This is what, in a manner of speaking, separates the men from the boys. I can talk about a lot of things and a lot of people stay with me..you can talk about all the good things: about praying the Rosary, about going to Mass, about all the Faith and Morals, the Doctrinal teaching of the Church..and good people will stay with you on that..but then when you get to this topic you begin to lose a lot of people. Why? They get nervous! As Padre Pio used to say, and some other Saints too..'Jesus gives the biggest share of His Cross to His best friends.' And of course in our human weakness..and we're all like that, I'm like that too hey I'm right with you, I'm not any better at this than you are..we say 'If Jesus gives the biggest share of His Cross to His best friends I hope He doesn't get too chummy with me!' We kind of fear suffering and that's understandable. You don't have to looking for it by the way. To be a spiritual person, a good Catholic, a Holy person even, you don't have to chase suffering, believe me it knows where you live! It'll come to you. Penance..Sacrifice, is indispensable for growing in intimacy with Jesus. One of the first things I did when I came back home to the Catholic Church, and I think the Holy Spirit inspired me in a lot things from the beginning of that 'reversion' as they call it nowadays, to educate me in a hurry , because God had to do a lot with me in a short period of time, and one of the first things He did was I systematically read about 500 lives of the Saints, I went through and read 500 books on the lives of the Saints, and that gave me a pretty good cross-section of what Saints looked like, and I can tell you something, certain consistent things about them: they all had a deep love for the Blessed Mother; they all were absolutely faithful to the Pope and the Magisterium of the Church; they were faithful to the Authentic Teaching of the Church; they were not rebels; they were not dissidents..these things are consistent among the Saints and one of the other things is: close proximity to the Cross of Christ" ... "You can't do without the Cross. As we have removed Penance and Sacrifice from the Church we have removed Power and Holiness."
