Curing Process 1.) Yellowing ---This is where the leaves are put in a pile to make sure all the green goes away. This process is for people who live in a hot and dry environment. If the leaves are cured in a hot and humid climate, then they do not need to be yellowed in a pile. Don't make the piles too large as this will cause the leaves in the middle to rot. The yellowing process should take about seven days per pile to complete. Try not to leave the leaves in the pile for more than seven days to prevent decomposition. The leaves, in the pile, must be taken out of the pile and shuffled twice a day (possibly once a day). This is to stop the growth of mold. 2.) Drying ---At this point, the leaf is hung up to provide greater airflow so the leaf can dry. The objective, at this point, is to dry the lamina of the leaf and clear up any green that remains. The leaf is done when the main stem makes a loud snapping sound when broken. Try to avoid hanging the leaves in the direct summer sun. The Virginia bright leaf variety of tobacco is usually flue cured, but air curing produces tasty leaves as well. The leaves just won't have the bright yellow color that flue curing produces. The process in the video can be used for many other types of tobacco.
