Come join watching the Parade march, part of the Island Bay Festival 2026 held on Sunday 8 February. Featuring Move it Dance Works, these warrior type peeps, Girl Guiding, Wellington City Light Horse Club, Batucada, World Marudao Karate and a few others. The Parade is a famous part of the annual suburban Island Bay Festival held in February. Starting on Avon Street near the corner of The Parade (the main road in Island Bay), the Parade march continues down and ends at Shorland Park near Island Bay Beach, passing through Island Bay Shopping Centre on the way. The Island Bay Festival is also the first suburban festival of the year, belonging to Wellington. Island Bay is praised for its family friendly community feel nice suburb located on the southern urban fringe of Wellington, serviced by the high frequency No.1 Tranzurban Metlink bus route. We also get our own beach, cinema, supermarket, parks, schools, post shop, pharmacy, and more. This years' Parade march was a bit smaller than last years' due to the catastrophic failure at the Moa Point wastewater treatment plant causing a major environmental disaster of the south coast beaches with a major sewage discharge into the water. This years' Blessing of the boats was cancelled due to this. Hopefully the beaches reopen again soon as thousands of us enjoy the beach and wanna go for a swim.
