"Joe Le Taxi" is a song about a taxi driver who is well-versed in the romantic streets of Paris. Joe adores Parisian nightlife, with its hidden bars and gleaming bridges over the Seine. In his cab, there is always good music playing. While stuck in traffic, taxi driver Joe entertains his passengers with rumba, mambo, saxophone sounds, and good old rock. "While researching the song, I discovered an intriguing story behind the lyrics." Joe is the pen name of Maria José Leo dos Santos, a female Portuguese taxi driver who fled to France in the 1970s. Maria José faced discrimination because of her sexual orientation. When Maria José's mother discovered her daughter was a lesbian, she took her to an exorcist, then to the hospital, and finally to a nun-run school. In the French capital, she adopted the name Joe and a male-dominated profession. She could be herself, traveling around Paris at night with guests from LGBT clubs.
