Colorado eastern plains railroads Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific were busy hurrying freight, coal and intermodal trains across the prairielands. Rain or shine, the trains must get through! Classic locomotive types included BNSF SD70ACe, ES44AC, ES44C4 and the fuel efficient variant ET44C4. Union Pacific diesels included ES44AC and newly refurbished C44ACM units, rebuilt from old C44-9W and AC4400CW engines, of which there were many on UP's roster. Foreign power included Norfolk Southern AC44C6M 4753, also rebuilt from a C44-9W older unit.
