This test is used to assess whether the means over time show a difference or not. Usually, there is some sort of intervention along the way and the repeated measures ANOVA is used to check for the effect of the intervention. The dependent variable needs to be on the interval or ratio scale. Furthermore, the dependent variable should be approximately normally distributed for each point in time (see here:    • Repeated Measures ANOVA in SPSS - checking...  ) For example: =========== I have a group of people and let them do a physical test and record the respective scores. Afterwards, a 3-week long training begins. After the completion of the training, the same test as before is done again and another score recorded. Finally, another 3 weeks later another such measurement is taken - no trainings has been done in the meantime though. I want to test whether the training had an effect on the test score and also if the effects reverts back to pre-training within 3 weeks of not training. The repeated measures ANOVA helps me in finding that out. The requirement of sphericity will also be tested since it is based on the model calculation. Sphericity describes the homogeneity of the variances of the pairwise differences. In case you have no sphericity, a correction should be applied. The Mauchly's test of sphericity is too sensitive with large samples and too liberal with small samples (Field (2018), p. 654-656). Therfore applying a correction regardless of Mauchly's test is recommended. Which correction should be applied is discussed within the video.
